Since September 7, the Migration Department has streamlined the procedures for issuing temporary residence permits in the Republic of Lithuania to foreigners who apply for a temporary residence permit when they intend to work in a highly qualified job (issued a “blue card”) or as a researcher in Lithuania.
According to the recently approved procedure, a foreigner who has filled in an application for a blue card or residence permit for a researcher through the Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS) will have the opportunity to choose a virtual visit. An application for a “blue card” or residence permit will be accepted (not accepted) on the day of the virtual visit of the foreigner. If the application for a blue card or residence permit for a researcher is not accepted, the reason for the refusal will be explained to the foreigner by email specified in the application.
If the Migration Department determines that the foreigner has submitted all the necessary documents, a notification will be sent to the foreigner that he must appear at the Migration Department to provide biometric data (face image and fingerprints) and original documents attached to the application. After the foreigner arrives at the Migration Department and provides biometric data and original documents, the residence permit will be issued within a few days.
Note that it also remains possible to apply for a Blue Card or Researcher Residence Permit following the normal application procedure, i.e. provide biometric data and original documents when accepting an application at the agreed time of the visit.
