Information on changes in the rules for issuing national visas from January 1, 2020

We want to remind you that a national visa is issued for a period of at least 91 days if you apply for a visa through the diplomatic mission or consular department of the Republic of Lithuania or through an external service provider to collect visa applications;

You can re-apply for a multiple national visa after more than 180 days have passed since the expiration date of the previous visa or visas. In some cases, however, visas may be issued before the deadline, for example, if the foreigner cannot leave the Republic of Lithuania due to illness, acute health condition or physical condition, or due to personal circumstances that the foreigner could not foresee and whose occurrence he could not have prevented either because of force majeure (force majeure), including in the event that the foreigner extended the seasonal work permit or filed an application for the issue or extension of a seasonal work permit.

Starting January 1, 2020:

- a foreign citizen holding a national visa with a validity of one year, after applying for a residence permit will not be issued a visa valid for 5 months for the period of consideration of the application. Thus, an alien who has a valid multiple-entry national visa and intends to apply for a temporary residence permit in order to stay in Lithuania during the period of consideration of the application will have to submit this application in advance – 2-4 months before the expiration of the valid national visa;
– Students, professional athletes, coaches, sailors and journalists can apply for a visa through diplomatic missions or consular posts of the Republic of Lithuania or through an external service provider for collecting visa applications.
